Compass Professional

Scenario Training

Prepare for difficult conversations or decisions under pressure. Practise your choices, explore why you make them and learn from what happens.

Rehearse, reflect and try again

In Professional, choose Scenario Training and describe an anonymised or fictional situation, your role and what you want to practise. Use the text conversation to rehearse, pause for feedback and try a different response. Debrief to review decisions, reasoning and what happened in the exercise.

Learn with colleagues

With colleagues, use a shared screen and let one person enter the group's responses. Pause to compare choices and assumptions, then discuss what you would carry into your work. This is a facilitated group discussion around one text conversation.

Explore scenario examples
  • A difficult conversation: Raise a concern with a colleague, manager or employee. Practise being clear while keeping the conversation constructive.
  • Someone is upset: Respond to a frustrated customer, worried parent or unhappy patient. Explore how to listen, clarify expectations and agree on a next step.
  • Competing priorities: Several people need your help at once. Practise deciding what comes first and explaining your choices.
  • Speaking up: You notice something that concerns you, but others seem comfortable with it. Rehearse how to question the decision and handle pushback.
  • An unexpected incident: Practise a traffic accident with several seriously injured people, as an on-scene responder or in the emergency dispatch centre. Explore communication, priorities and the reasoning behind decisions as new information arrives.
  • A new opportunity: Prepare for a job interview, discuss a promotion or explore the responsibilities of a different role.

Bring your own situation, practise your response and explore what you could do differently.
